These comments are my views and observations, I respect your rights as far as they are within the law. I can still respect your freedom and rights and disagree with your actions. (Respect for ourselves guides our morals, respect for others guides our manners.)
Respect is like common sense you most likely are born with it and your parents and peers build upon that, you can’t learn it in a book, classroom, or a seminar you either have it or you don’t.
I’m old school, my parents taught me to be respectful, but early on I knew what it was and recognized it in others and always found myself running the other way from those that had no clue. As I have grown older I find my patience for most short. I am drawn towards spending more time alone surrounded by natures wonders and in doing so find that I am not alone and have a new growing respect for the outdoors.
I find the days of the true outdoorsman are quickly passing and being replaced with what I call the new age hunter, he is wearing the fashionable camo, has that very special rifle, high tech gadgets, e-calls, motor bikes, atvs, night scopes, night vision and trail cams hooked up to laptops sitting by the fire at home and let’s not forget social media. The addiction of social media has altered and exposed the disrespectful hunter. He gets on a group thread and mocks comments with his intelligent sarcasm and is really the only one who knows anything. He posts and brags his numbers and kills to the public and then cries out in rage and name calling when someone responds. The mass majority of people really don’t care about hunting so why would you shove it in their face and expect no response? Our inability to control our ego and narcissism always exposes our lack of respect.
I want to have hope for the future hunter but I see little if any and as the true outdoorsman passes into the time of history, I fear those days will just be stories laughed at , by the new age hunter.
